2027: Ibori Not Interested In Senatorial Contest — Media Office

    on

The media office of former Delta State Governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, has categorically denied rumors circulating online that he intends to run for a senatorial seat in the 2027 elections. In a press statement issued on Monday, the office described the claims as “mischievous” and without foundation, emphasizing that Ibori had rejected similar suggestions as far back as 2007.
The statement highlighted that despite pressure from close advisers at the time, Ibori firmly turned down the idea nearly two decades ago, making any current speculation “illogical and misleading.” It urged those spreading or engaging in such rumors to cease immediately, asserting there is “no basis whatsoever” for the allegations.
Ibori, who served as governor from 1999 to 2007, has faced various political and legal challenges in the years since. Despite this, the media office reaffirmed his dedication to public service, stating that he remains focused on leveraging his experience for the advancement of Delta State and Nigeria as a whole, in line with his enduring principles.
The denial comes amid growing political chatter in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various figures positioning themselves for federal and state roles. However, Ibori’s camp insists his contributions will continue outside of electoral contests.

    PRESS STATEMENT
It has come to the attention of the Ibori Media Office that a mischievous online publication is falsely suggesting that our principal is interested in contesting the 2027 election as a Senator.
Let it be clearly stated that this idea was firmly rejected as far back as 2007, even when pressure was mounted by some of his close advisers at the time. It is therefore illogical and misleading to suggest that he would contemplate such an ambition nearly two decades later.
Those spreading or indulging in this speculation should immediately desist, as there is no basis whatsoever for such claims.
Our principal remains committed to contributing his wealth of experience to the continued development and betterment of Delta State and Nigeria in general, in ways consistent with his long-standing convictions and sense of service.
