It was a heart breaking moment for the family and friends of the late Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, on Friday as his remains arrived Nigeria from Germany, where died due to complications arising from debilitating prostate cancer.
Reports said that the aircraft that conveyed the body of the late governor arrived in Nigeria about 3:39 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024.
The body was received by his wife, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, his children, and siblings led by Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the late governor’s immediate younger brother.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbi Talabi; and the representative of Osun State Governor, Senator Demola Adeleke, also joined in receiving the body.
The Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Ade Adetimehin; a member of the House of Representatives, Gboyega Adefarati; and some Ondo State Government officials were also present at the airport to receive the body of the late governor.
Family members, friends, and associates could not control their emotions as the body of Akeredolu was being lowered from the plane.
Akeredolu passed in Germany on December 26, 2023.
It was, however, gathered that the late governor’s remains have been deposited at the morgue until the burial.
His family had said the details of his burial arrangements would be announced at a later date.
