Former militant warlord, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, has vowed to form an alliance with the North ahead of the 2027 general election.
Dokubo declared this in a viral video that is currently trending on the internet. He alleged in the same video that President Bola Tinubu has betrayed him, saying he campaigned actively for the president, but despite working for President Tinubu’s emergence he has been neglected. He could be heard in the video vowing to form an alliance with the North, claiming that after risking his life, he got nothing.
He said, “I apologise to our fathers because they were not wrong in forming an alliance with the North, and as young men, we will now start that same alliance.
“From today, I will work and form an alliance with the North. President Tinubu betrayed me after I spent all my money and emptied my bank account campaigning for him. The Tinubu I know now isn’t the Tinubu I used to know. We will take this message across that only the Northerners can work with the Ijaw people. We risked our lives by voting and doing everything, and this is what we get?”
It is unclear when Dokubo fell out with President Tinubu but there are suggestions that the hitherto warm disposition went South after Dokubo’s visit to the Presidential Villa reportedly embarrassed the president.
The former militant met with Tinubu less than a month after the president assumed office and in the process of addressing reporters at the Villa, said things far beyond what he should ordinarily limit himself to.
“The President is a strong President. He is going to take decisive actions to get rid of the rotten eggs. It is not the whole Army and Navy that are bad but there are a few who have this entitlement mentality, thinking they have God fathers that are behind them but the President is going to remove such people and make it possible for the people of this country to benefit,” he had said after the meeting.
Dokubo subsequently asked Nigerians to hold him responsible if Tinubu failed.
