He died on his 80th birthday
The former Secretary General of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Chief Frank Ovie Kokori, is dead. He was 80.
He reportedly died at exactly 1:30 am on Thursday, December 7, 2023, coincidentally on his birthday at exactly 80. His passage was confirmed by his personal assistant, Atawada Barry Oke.
Kokori, who has been sick for some time now, passed on at Mount Horeb Hospital, Warri, Delta State.
His condition reportedly deteriorated about a week ago leading to his being placed on oxygen until his passing in the early hours of Thursday.
Kokori, an Urhobo, hails from Ovu town in Agbon Kingdom of Delta State.
He played an indelible role in the struggle for the revalidation of June 12, 1993, Presidential Election widely acclaimed as the best in Nigeria and won by the late business mogul, MKO Abiola. Then Military President,Gen Ibrahim Babangida annulled it.
He later recounted the roles he played in a book titled “The Struggle For June 12”.
He was a founding chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
