Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has formally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He confirmed the defection on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting which held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
“This decision reflects my commitment to ensuring stable governance and aligning with partners who support the progress of Rivers State,” he reportedly told attendees.
The announcement, which was not unexpected, follows months of political tension in the state and now marks a significant realignment within Rivers’ politics.
Fubara’s move is expected to trigger reactions from political actors within and outside the state, as the change alters existing alliances and introduces new dynamics in the build-up to future political decisions.
As it is now, all the six states in the South South geopolitical zone of the country, which were once ruled by the PDP, are now all firmly in the APC kitty.
