Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has finally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after months of speculation and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.
Addressing journalists in Asaba, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), Charles Aniagwu, in company of Senator James Manager and Chief Press Secretary to Governor Oborevwori, Sir Festus Ahon, confirmed the development. He added that by next week Monday, a “big statement would be made” in apparent reference to possible public declaration.
The decision to defect to the APC, Aniagwu explained, followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and was made in the interest of Delta State’s long-term development.
Governor Oborevwori, won the 2023 gubernatorial election on the platform of the PDP. Analysts are already describing the defection as a strategic realignment with far-reaching implications ahead of the 2027 general elections.
