The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has fined the Federal Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) N100 million for violating the fundamental rights of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Olukayode Adeniyi, the presiding judge, granted the order on Monday when he held that Emefiele’s prolonged detention without trial was a flagrant violation of his rights.
The judgment was given in a fundamental human rights suit filed by the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor following his prolonged detention in the custody of the Department of State Services.
