Despite the recent mass defection of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a chieftain of the PDP and 2023 House of Assembly aspirant in Ughelli North, Oke Umurhohwo, has reassured Deltans that the party remains unified, resilient and dedicated to the people. Last month, the country political ecosystem was shaken when Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, led a massive defection of the party faithful to the APC blaming instability in the PDP.
Speaking to newsmen in Ughelli, Umurhohwo emphasized the party’s strength and determination to remain a dominant force in the state. He urged supporters to stay committed as the PDP navigates these political shifts.
“We are confident that the PDP will remain a major force in Delta State and beyond,” Umurhohwo stated.
He added that “Our party has overcome challenges before, and we will emerge stronger. We call on our supporters to remain steadfast during this period.”
Umurhohwo assured loyalists that the PDP’s future in Delta State is secure despite the defections. He emphasized ongoing efforts to revitalize the party and restore its influence.
“We want to reassure all PDP loyalists that the party’s future is bright,” he said. “We are working to strengthen the PDP and ensure it regains its prominence in Delta State. Our legacy of progress and development will continue.”
Umurhohwo expressed optimism about a smooth leadership transition to rejuvenate the party’s activities. He highlighted the fact that the incoming leadership would bring fresh perspectives to steer the PDP toward greater success.
“The new leadership will inject energy and vision,” Umurhohwo noted. “We are committed to working together to ensure the PDP thrives and returns to victory.”
Acknowledging concerns about the defections, Umurhohwo sought to calm supporters, describing such shifts as a normal part of politics. He reassured Deltans that the PDP’s unity and resilience would see it through.
“We understand the concerns of our supporters, but the PDP remains united,” he said. “Our faith in the party’s ability to overcome adversity is unshaken. We have triumphed before, and we will again.”
As Delta State’s political landscape evolves, Umurhohwo underscored the PDP’s commitment to serving Deltans. He called for unity among members and pledged to prioritize the state’s welfare dand development.
“The actions of a few will not derail our mission,” Umurhohwo declared.
“The PDP stands for the people, and we will continue to fight for Delta State’s progress, security, and well-being.”
As Delta State’s political future unfolds, the PDP remains steadfast in its dedication to the people and the state’s growth.
