Ukraine has agreed to the terms of a peace deal with US officials, Donald Trump’s administration has said.
Over the weekend, US officials had been in talks with Ukrainian officials in Geneva pushing for peace. A US official said the Ukrainians has agreed to “the peace deal” but added there are a “few minor points still to sort out”.
The source told ABC News: “The Ukrainians have agreed to the peace deal. There are a few minor points still to sort out but they’ve agreed to the deal.”
It comes as US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll held secret talks with a Russian delegation in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Lt Col Jeffrey Tolbert said: “Late Monday and throughout Tuesday, Secretary Driscoll and team have been in talks with the Russian delegation to secure a lasting peace in Ukraine.
“The discussions are going well and we remain optimistic. Secretary Driscoll is closely aligned with the White House and wider US interagency as these talks continue.”
Ukraine’s national security adviser Rustem Umerov said Ukraine had “reached a common understanding” with the US officials.
He wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “We appreciate the productive and constructive meetings held in Geneva between the Ukrainian and U.S. delegations, as well as President Trump’s steadfast efforts to end the war.
“Our delegations reached a common understanding on the core terms of the agreement discussed in Geneva. We now count on the support of our European partners in our further steps.
“We look forward to organizing a visit of Ukraine’s President to the US at the earliest suitable date in November to complete final steps and make a deal with President Trump.”
