A group, Concerned Edo Progressives, has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to focus on giving the party’s sole ticket for the 2024 gubernatorial election to a competent aspirant, rather than following an unwritten zoning arrangement.
The advice came ahead of primaries for the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21 2024.
While declaring support for Kasimu Otono, who is running under the platform of the APC, the organisation said it was time for young progressives to take over governance in Edo State state.
The gruop in a communiqué signed by its Spokesperson, Hassan Abiri, said rotation of political seats would focus less on competence and actual delivery of good governance for the people.
He described Otono as the only person that has been tested and trusted with high level of integrity, character, capacity, and competence who can rescue Edo State from bad governance.
The organization said, “Although there is a golden rule that has been adopted by all relevant stakeholders to foster peace and unity and fairness amongst all Edo sons and daughters, we urge that the APC should look beyond sentiment and more of competence and capacity to deliver the Renewed Hope mantra of Mr President to the great people of Edo State.
“That is why we are asking the party to look inward to the unquestionable person of Kasimu Otono and, as such, throw its weight behind his candidacy and we are appealing to all aspirants from all the three senatorial districts to close ranks and support a breath of fresh air.
“While Otono served as Director, Youth Mobilization, Edo North Presidential/Senatorial Campaign Council in the last general elections where he performed exceptionally well that earned the APC the overwhelming victory they deserve, Edo North youths and beyond were all in cheerful mood upon announcement of his appointment.
“Accordingly, he has assured all Edo citizens irrespective of party affiliations or tribe as he doesn’t need to know you before he helps you. He is a good product to sell without any baggage or blemish, this is why his political party, the APC will not make any mistake by endorsing him as their flag bearer because members of other political parties and other electorates will accept and vote for him unconditionally at the general elections.”
