… Says Vote of Confidence Reflects Progress in Edo Sports

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has applauded the Edo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for its strong, united stance in support of sports development in the state, describing the Association’s resolutions at its congress as “a timely reinforcement of partnership and progress.”
This followed an emergency congress of Edo SWAN held Tuesday, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Media Centre, where sports writers unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Enabulele and commended the state government for its renewed drive in sports.
In a statement issued Wednesday by his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele said the Association’s action points—particularly its endorsement of the Commission’s direction and its commitment to ethical, developmental sports reporting—reflect the strengthening synergy between the Commission and stakeholders.
“I am truly encouraged by the resolutions of the Edo SWAN congress.
“Their vote of confidence is not just a commendation of my leadership; it is a recognition of the collective efforts of the entire Edo Sports Commission team and the unwavering support we receive from the state government,” Enabulele said.
He noted that sports journalists remain crucial partners, stressing that their objectivity and constructive engagement help shape public understanding of policies, programmes, and reforms driven by the Commission.
“Their scrutiny keeps us accountable, while their balanced reportage helps the public appreciate the progress being made. Their latest position tells us we are on the right path,” he added.
Enabulele reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to building sustainable structures, nurturing young athletes, strengthening sports associations, and maintaining world-class facilities across the state.
He credited Governor Monday Okpebholo for his administration’s strategic investments in sports infrastructure, athlete welfare, and sector-wide reforms.
According to him, “The support of Governor Okpebholo has been pivotal. His commitment to sports development is giving Edo athletes, coaches, and associations renewed hope and better opportunities.”
The Commission Chairman also praised Edo SWAN for reaffirming its confidence in the leadership of its Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Osagiede, describing the congress resolutions as a step that enhances stability and professionalism within the sports media community.
He urged the Association to continue fostering ethical journalism, insisting that no individual or group should be allowed to disrupt the professionalism and unity essential to advancing sports in the state.
With both institutions aligning their objectives, Edo’s sports sector, he said, is set for greater achievements on the national and international stage.
