Edo State Government is set to host a grand celebration of its cultural identity and contemporary creativity as preparations intensify for the State’s Carnival 2025, themed “Illuminating Heritage, Celebrating Today.”
The seven-day festival, scheduled for December 21–27 in Benin City, is designed to spotlight the state’s rich traditions while promoting tourism, economic growth, and artistic innovation.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Office of New Media and Visual Communication, the state government described the carnival as a dynamic platform for cultural preservation and community engagement.
The event is expected to attract residents, visitors, creative talents, and cultural enthusiasts from across the country.
The carnival lineup features an array of activities that celebrate the depth and diversity of Edo heritage. They include:
Heritage Carnival: A colourful procession highlighting masquerades, traditional wrestling, musical dramas, and age-grade dance performances.
Cultural Fiesta and Food Festival: A showcase of Edo and Nigerian cuisine, cooking competitions, and palm-wine tasting sessions.
Dreamalive Talent Quest: A talent platform for emerging performers, culminating in a grand finale showcase.
Shine Beer Barn and Christmas Grotto: A lively hub for entertainment, social gatherings, and festive cheer.
Grand Band Parade: A display of elaborate costumes, choreography, and cultural storytelling inspired by royal traditions.
Awards and Closing Concert: A high-energy finale featuring musical performances and surprise celebrity appearances.
The organisers say the 2025 edition aims to further establish the Edo State Carnival as one of Nigeria’s premier cultural events, reinforcing the state’s commitment to nurturing creativity and promoting its heritage on a global stage.
Also, the organizers welcome residents and visitors alike to Benin City to experience the colour, rhythm, and spirit of the Edo State Carnival 2025.
