The Edo State Commissioner for Works, Hon. (Dr.) Felix Ehiguese Akhabue, JP, has called on engineers in both the public and private sectors to uphold integrity, professionalism, and accountability in the execution of their duties.
He stressed that fear of God, dedication to service, and consciousness of future responsibility must remain central to engineering practice.
Dr. Akhabue made the remark on Tuesday when he received the Executive Committee of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Benin Branch, on a courtesy visit to his office at the Ministry of Works headquarters, Benin City. The visit was disclosed in a statement signed by Pastor Jude Isibor, Personal Assistant and Media Director to the Commissioner.
The delegation, led by the NSE Benin Branch Chairman, Engr. Dr. (Mrs.) Tina Oigiangbe, included the Vice Chairman, Engr. Dr. John Obanor, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, and senior directors of the Ministry.
Engr. Oigiangbe congratulated the Commissioner on his appointment and assumption of office, describing the visit as a gesture of support and a reaffirmation of the Society’s commitment to partner with the Ministry in advancing infrastructural development across Edo State.
“This visit is to congratulate you and to reaffirm our readiness to collaborate with the Ministry as it continues to drive infrastructural development in the State. Given your pivotal role in the ongoing projects, it became necessary for us to meet with you,” she said.
In his remarks, Dr. Akhabue expressed appreciation for the visit and assured the delegation of the Ministry’s willingness to work closely with the NSE. He reaffirmed his commitment to the trust placed in him by Governor Monday Okpebholo, promising transparent, accountable, and professionally driven service delivery.
“The mandate entrusted to me by His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, will not be compromised. Transparency, accountability, and service to the people will remain my guiding principles. These can only be achieved by ensuring that all roads and infrastructure are constructed in line with acceptable engineering standards,” he said.
The Commissioner further urged the NSE leadership to continually guide and caution their members to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in all engineering projects across the State.
