A stunning equalizer by substitute, John Stones, deep into stoppage time salvaged a 2-2 draw for Manchester City against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Sunday evening as the Premier League’s top two finishers in the past two seasons faced off in a pulsating tie.
City drew the first blood with an early lead as Erling Haaland scored his 10th goal in five Premier League matches, but Arsenal soon levelled through a wonderful strike by Riccardo Calafiori, who was making his full debut for the Gunners.
Gabriel gave Arsenal the lead after he converted a Bukayo Saka corner with a header, but the Gunners went down to 10 men just before the break after Leandro Trossard was given a second yellow card for a foul.
Arsenal sought to protect their lead against City’s incessant attacks in the second half and it looked like they were going to hold out for their first win at the Etihad since 2015, but Stones put the ball in the net in the eighth minute of added time amid a scramble in the box.
The point was enough to send City above Liverpool to the top of the table with 13 points, while Arsenal are fourth with 11 points.
