A former House of Representatives aspirant in Imo State, Mr. Peter Obialo, has gone into hiding following threats to his life after being accused by his wife and her family of bisexual conduct.
Obialo, an Abuja-based businessman, is the CEO of P-Iyke Oil Limited.
In 2017, Obialo, who already had two children from a previous relationship, had a lavish wedding with Helen.
For some years, everything appeared well for the couple until the wife allegedly caught Obialo in a ācompromising situationā with one of his male companions in 2023.
It was learnt that the wife, who had suspected her husbandās sexual orientation following rumours that he was bisexual and that the wedding was only a smokescreen, was left devastated.
Sources said the couple got engaged and got married just two months after they met.
Mrs. Obialo was said to have confided in close friends and family members that her husband suddenly became distant, frequently avoiding intimacy by citing work stress and exhaustion.
The lack of marital connection, she claimed, contributed to her inability to conceive.
The wife was said to have confronted Obialo. But after reportedly pleading for forgiveness and refusing to change, she decided to inform her family.
What followed was a storm of threats and outrage by her family, which claimed Obialo betrayed and humiliated their daughter.
It was gathered that the family reported the matter to the police and that Obialo was invited for interrogation.
Under Nigerian law, same-sex activity is a criminal offence and anyone found guilty was liable to 14 years imprisonment.
Fearing for his safety, Obialo is said to have fled to either the United States or Canada despite filing for a divorce.
