Casualty figure rises
The Kaduna State Government has ordered an immediate investigation into the Tudun Biri village incident in Igabi Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Uba Sani stated this in a statement he signed and issued to newsmen on Monday in Kaduna.
Sani said: “I received with shock the news of the tragic incident at Tudun Biri village, Afaka ward of Rigasa District of Igabi Local Government, where Muslim faithful observing Maulud celebration were mistakenly killed and many others injured following a military drone attack targeting terrorists and bandits.
“The state government has dispatched top government officials to the area to assess the situation, reach out to the families of the victims and advise the government on the immediate measures to be taken to lessen the pains of the families of the victims.
“An immediate investigation into the tragic incident has commenced
“We are determined to prevent a repeat of this tragedy and reassure our people that their protection would be prioritised in the sustained fight against terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements.”
The governor also directed the immediate evacuation of the injured to the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital for emergency medical attention.
“The government will be responsible for their treatment and related logistics,” Sani said.
The governor further appealed to the affected community and all citizens to keep calm, continue to support the security forces and the state government in its battle against terrorists, bandits as well as other criminal elements in the state.
Sani also expressed sympathies to the families of those who lost their loved ones while praying Allah, in his mercy grant all of the deceaed Aljannah Firdausi and their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
The governor also commiserated with those that sustained injuries and wished them speedy recovery.
Meanwhile, the casualty figure continues to rise and sources say over 100 might have died from the accidental drone strike by the Nigerian Army on a group of worshipers.
