Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area is hosting the maiden edition of the NULGE Unity Cup, a football tournament organised to promote peace, unity, and youth development across Edo State.

The week-long competition, which kicked off on Sunday, is organised by the Federation of Youths Soccer Clubs (FEYSOC) in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Edo State chapter.

It features under-18 boys’ and girls’ teams from all 18 local government areas of the state.

At the epoch making opening ceremony held at Idogbo Secondary School, NULGE State President, Dr. Scot Aigbovia, said the tournament was conceived to engage young people positively and harness their talents through sports.

He applauded the Executive Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha, Rt. Hon. Obosa Jolly, for supporting youth-focused programmes and described his leadership as a model for other councils.

In his welcome address, Rt. Hon. Jolly said Ikpoba-Okha was honoured to host the first edition of the Unity Cup, emphasising that sports remain a veritable tool for strengthening relationships and building responsible future leaders.

The ceremonial kick-off was performed by Dr. Scot Aigbovia and Rt. Hon. Jolly to signal the commencement of matches.

The opening game saw Oredo LGA edge past Egor LGA with a narrow 1–0 victory in a match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

The finals of the tournament are scheduled to hold on Saturday, with expectations high for a grand closing ceremony that will attract dignitaries, football scouts, and sports enthusiasts from within and outside the state.
