… Vows to erase what’s left of PDP in Delta State

    Hon Nicholas Ossai

    BY BENEDICT NWACHUKWU, ABUJA

Former House of Representatives member, Nicholas Ossai has declared that his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is to join forces with others and work for President Bola Tinubu and to wipe out what remains of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State.

Hon Ossai who was received at the Buhari House national secretariat of the APC by the National Secretary, Dr. Bashir Ajibola on Wednesday also said his love for and belief in the capabilities of his age long political idol, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was another reason he jumped out of the sinking ship of the PDP.

According to him, “it’s not about party but about Nigeria and who is capable of fixing the problems the country is facing. And having been a strong believer in Tinubu right from his days as governor of Lagos State, I have seen clearly that he has redirected the country to a progressive roadmap.

“My role model Asiwaju Tinubu is the President of the country, and I have been following him up during the time of SDP. I was in the same political party with him in SDP, and he was our leader in Lagos as of that time. I’ve been waiting for him to contest, and today he’s the president. I am happy with the initiative he has propelled this country towards to. A country that needs to be vetted in a solid foundation.”

Ossai who represented Ndokwa East/ Ndokwa West Federal Constituency said the APC in Delta State is one big family without any crack, claiming that so called factions or camps in the party is a figment of peoples imagination.

He added that the party’s big wigs met last week Saturday and the meeting had who is who in the party in attendance which, according to him is a confirmation that there is unity in the party.

“You needed to witness the meeting held on Saturday by the party. All the serving Senators, HoR members and every top shots of the party were in attendance. It was one big family. That proved that APC is united in Delta State and with this unity, we are going to take the mantle of governance from the dead PDP.

“The umbrella has broken, the centre cannot hold. You don’t play the party politics when the head is sick. So I have come to be part of the teamwork of APC that is already shaping Nigeria, plus agricultural revolutions, I’m happy with what all APC governors who have gone into the agricultural sectors. Today, you will see our prices of food they are coming down, I think that’s the progress.

“APC has not won elections in Delta State in the past, but with my coming into the party, the end of road for PDP has come. This is why I said I’m in APC finally kill and bury PDP.”

“I’m happy as APC member today, and I’m going to work with the leadership of APC in the grassroots and make sure that APC take over Delta State in 2027.

“To start with, APC will take over the House of Assembly on my local government, which I will produce by his grace, APC will take over my federal constituency where I have spent 12 years.”

On the incessant defection of politicians from one party to another, the former lawmaker said, “Virtually all the political parties are centralist in ideology. So that’s why you see political class following very strong leaders who are role models to change society.

“PDP today has broken. You ask a question, why is it not fixed? Because the centre cannot hold. And having seen a leader that not only organised a political party, but a leader that can organise the society and move the society forward. As a tender person, as I was during the SDP eras. I was following Tinubu. He was my leader in Lagos, and I was in the political party of SDP under the leadership of Agbalajobi.”

He allayed the fears of the country turning to a one party system saying, “In the more than 300 years of American democracy, you will discover that there were evolutions of political parties. It is not only two political parties that are in American, but sometimes a political party will become dominant.

“I have investigated 850 agencies of this country, I know what was lacking, I know what is happening today. I understand that we were borrowing money at a time to play salary. Is that what is going on today? No!, because a particular leader has a emerged, who is my role model to shift the direction of the nation.”

“Do I need to sit down at my home and watch and go out how to be participating. This one here. Others Don’t ask. I have, PDP, it’s left behind me now, during the time of Jonathan, I was most critical against his government. I was the most critical. People were asking, Is that man really a PDP man? I am for Nigeria, not for political parties? Tinubu is my role model, who is defining how governance should be covered.”
