Inter Miami captain, Lionel Messi, has overtaken Cristiano Ronaldo in the all-time non-penalty goals record following his latest brace against the New York Red Bulls.
Messi scored twice in Inter Miami’s 5–1 victory on Saturday night, taking his tally to 764 non-penalty goals, edging past Ronaldo, who stands at 763.
The Argentine’s brace marked his sixth in the last seven matches, underscoring his prolific form this season. The 38-year-old has now recorded 22 goals and seven assists in 28 appearances for Inter Miami in the 2024–25 campaign.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo, 40, who plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, has netted 35 goals and provided four assists in 41 appearances this season. Overall, he has scored more than 930 career goals as he targets the 1,000-goal milestone.
Messi and Ronaldo have dominated world football for nearly two decades, amassing 13 Ballon d’Or titles between them.
Saturday’s win lifted Inter Miami to 41 points after 21 games, seven points behind Eastern Conference leaders FC Cincinnati, with three games in hand.
