Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Saturday evening, January 10, 2026, sent Algeria packing from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 holding in Morocco as they defeated the Desert Foxes to qualify for the semi-finals.
The three-time champions came out smoking from the blast of the referee’s whistle, dominating proceedings in the heavyweight quarter-finals clash at the 45,000-capacity Grand Stade de Marrakech and coming close to scoring a number of times.
After a barren first half, the Eagles broke the deadlock two minutes on the restart when top striker Victor Osimhen leapt high to powerfully nod in a cross from the left flank by Bruno Onyemaechi.
Ten minutes later, the Nigerians extended the lead after Osimhen found Akor Adams, who dribbled goalie Luca Zidane before slotting into an empty net.
With this victory, Nigeria will now battle hosts Morocco in the semi-finals next week Wednesday night, January 14, 2026.
