Labour Party leader and 2023 Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the American University of Nigeria (AUN)’s 16th Founder’s Day and 20th Convocation ceremony on Saturday, November 30th, 2024.
The announcement was made today by Ibrahim Umar of the POMR office.
Obi’s speech will be part of a larger celebration commemorating AUN’s two decades of service and its founder, former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The university highlights its commitment to addressing socio-economic challenges on the African continent through student-led community projects and research.
This commitment has earned AUN a place among the top three Nigerian universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) 2024 global impact ranking.
Obi’s selection as keynote speaker follows a string of addresses at prestigious institutions globally this year, including Harvard, Yale, and Wharton Universities. AUN President, Professor DeWayne Preston Frazier, expressed his enthusiasm for Obi’s participation, stating, “Mr. Obi is an accomplished public servant and politician who has spent most of his life providing quality leadership and service to Nigerians.
“He is a champion of education and will be an excellent speaker to celebrate our 20 years.”
The AUN Founder’s Day lecture series boasts a distinguished list of past speakers, including Dr. Paul Vita, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, former Ugandan Vice President, Dr. Gilbert Bukenya, Professor Charles Soludo, Professor William Bertrand, and Professor Steven Titus.
Obi’s participation adds another prominent figure to this impressive roster.
The event will also honour Atiku Abubakar for his contributions to education and human development.
