Former Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State, Prof Hope Eghagha, has said the Appeal Court victory of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is a vindication as well as confirmation of the choice of the people of Delta State at the March 18 gubernatorial election.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos on Friday upheld the decision of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which had earlier affirmed Governor Oborevwori as the dully elected Governor of the state.
In a terse statement sent to GRANDNEWS ONLINE on Friday evening, Prof Eghagha declared that “Sheriff Oborevwori’s victory in the tribunal and at the appellate level is a vindication, confirmation, of the people’s choice of their governor. To God be the glory.”
The Professor of English Language at the prestigious University of Lagos and the leader of an Urhobo socio-cultural group, Urhobo Renaissance Society (URS), used the opportunity to call on the main challenger in the election, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, to join hands with Governor Oborevwori to develop what he called the “Homeland”.
“I call on Sen Omo-Agege to direct his energy towards building and developing our Homeland. Congratulations to the governor, congratulations to the people and congratulations to PDP,” he said.
The governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Asaba, had earlier dismissed the petitions of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Mr. Ken Pela, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party and Chief Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for lacking in merit.
The tribunal held that Governor Oborevwori was duly elected by majority of lawful votes cast in the March 18 Governorship Election in the state.
Not satisfied with the ruling, the appellants sought redress at the Appeal court. But the Appeal Court dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit.
