Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has received yet another major recognition for his administration’s growing developmental impact, as he was honoured with the prestigious OPAL Award for Excellent Performance by the St. Maria Goretti Old Girls Association (SMAGOGA).
The award, which celebrates outstanding leadership and commitment to public service, underscores the increasing national acknowledgement of Governor Okpebholo’s governance style and his administration’s focus on people-centred development across Edo State.
According to a press release issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Patrick Ebojele, the latest honour comes shortly after the Governor was also named Best Governor of the Year in Education by New Telegraph Newspaper for 2025, further highlighting the growing recognition of his administration’s policy direction.
The OPAL Award for Excellent Performance was presented during the 2026 SMAGOGA Awards and Alumni Gala Night held at the prestigious Madison Place, Victoria Island, Lagos, where distinguished alumni, professionals, corporate leaders, and notable Nigerians gathered to celebrate excellence, leadership, and service.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Mobilisation, Lady Omorede Osifo, received the award on behalf of Governor Okpebholo at the colourful ceremony.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Osifo conveyed the governor’s appreciation to the SMAGOGA alumni body for recognising the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition Edo State through strategic reforms, infrastructure renewal, and people-oriented policies.
Governor Okpebholo noted that recognition from a reputable alumni association such as SMAGOGA serves as encouragement for his administration to sustain its development agenda and deepen governance that prioritises the welfare of Edo people.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to delivering inclusive leadership that promotes economic growth, strengthens institutions, and expands opportunities for citizens across the state.
The governor stressed that the focus of his administration remains on implementing programmes that improve infrastructure, empower communities, support education, and create a sustainable development pathway for Edo State.
SMAGOGA, the alumni association of St. Maria Goretti Girls’ Grammar School, is widely respected for its longstanding contributions to education, women empowerment, and initiatives that support social and community development.
The gala night attracted prominent members of the SMAGOGA network, professionals, business leaders, and other distinguished Nigerians who gathered to celebrate the enduring legacy of the institution and honour individuals making meaningful contributions to society.
Governor Okpebholo described the recognition as a tribute not only to his administration but also to the resilience and aspirations of the people of Edo State, pledging that his government will continue to pursue policies and programmes that accelerate the state’s growth and development.
