Thousands of Pro-democracy activists and politicians are expected to storm on Ondo State on December 16, to participate in a planned protest against the continuous absence of the State Governor, Arakunrin Akeredolu.
The protest to be led by presidential candidate African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, is tagged “Resume or Resign”.
Members of Take It Back Movement are already in Akure, the state capital, to mobilise residents for the ‘Occupy Ondo State’ protest which will take place at the Akure Town Hall.
There has been so much tension in the Sunshine State due to months-long absence of Akeredolu from the state because of ill-health.
He was on medical leave to Germany and since his return, he has not returned to Ondo State.
It is believed he is in his Ibadan, Oyo State residence, recuperating. But, a source said he may have been flown abroad again to seek medical help.
Due to his absence, forces loyal to him have been battling his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, leading to tension in the 47-year-old state.
Members of the House of Assembly, who are believed to be sympathetic to Akeredolu and his wife, Betty, also tried to impeach him.
Aiyedatiwa quickly ran to court to stop, what he described as an illegal act.
President Bola Tinubu had to call the combatants to maintain the peace.
But, Sowore, on Sunday night, said the protest scheduled for Saturday, “is to address the affairs of the state, governance and concerns related to Governor Akeredolu”.
