Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chief Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clashed on Sunday over monthly security votes collected by the governor.
Ajayi accused Governor Aiyedatiwa of collecting N1.2 billion monthly in security votes with nothing to show for it in terms of security in the state.
He made the allegation during a debate moderated by Seun Okinbaloye on Channels Television monitored by our Correspondent in Lagos.
Ajayi challenged the governor to disclose the exact amount he receives each month, saying “I challenge the governor to make public how much he’s collecting if he says I am lying about the N1.2 billion figure,” Ajayi stated.
But Governor Aiyedatiwa refused to be drawn into the controversial allegation. He simply dismissed Ajayi’s claims as a man whose claims are borne out of speculation and not specific, saying he was merely lying.
“My brother can’t come here and be lying. Is he in government?” Aiyedatiwa countered.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, however, did not state the monthly receipt for security votes by him.
The debate also explored what they would do to revive Cocoa, a cash crop that is prominent in the state and how they plan to industrialize the state.
