The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed the party’s unity under the leadership of the Amb. Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC), while expressing concern over recent internal conflicts that have threatened its stability. In a communique issued following an emergency meeting on Wednesday, the BoT announced the formation of a high-powered reconciliation committee to address ongoing disputes ahead of the party’s Elective National Convention scheduled for November 15-16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The meeting, held amid heightened tensions within the PDP, including public misunderstandings and an invasion of the party’s National Secretariat, underscored the BoT’s role as the “conscience of the party.” The board emphasized its commitment to neutrality, stating it “cannot and will not take sides” but will prioritize safeguarding the PDP’s integrity through dialogue rather than discord. “The decision for reconciliation is not as a sign of weakness, but as a demonstration of maturity and responsibility,” the communique read.
In a key resolution, the BoT commended the NWC, the PDP Governors Forum, the National Convention Organizing Committee, and other party organs for their efforts in stabilizing the PDP as preparations for the convention intensify. The board described the party as “united, formidable, and focused,” highlighting collective progress toward the upcoming event.
The BoT also welcomed a recent ruling by the Oyo State High Court, presided over by Justice A.L. Akintola, which affirmed the PDP’s constitutional right to manage its internal affairs, including holding the 2025 Elective National Convention as planned. The board hailed the decision as a “victory to Democracy, Rule of Law, and political development in our country.”

Acknowledging the “worry over recent developments within our ranks,” the BoT noted that the tensions and regrettable public incidents do not reflect the PDP’s core ideals. To resolve these issues, the board established a reconciliation committee tasked with immediately engaging conflicting sides to restore unity before the convention.
The committee, described as “high-powered,” includes the following members:
Amb. Hassan Adamu (North East) – Chairman
Chief Mike Oghiadomhe (South South) – Secretary
Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (South East)
Sen. Zaynab Kure (North Central)
Prince Onyinlola Olagunsoye (South West)
Dr. Lubna Mohammed Gusau (North West)
The committee has been mandated to report back to the BoT by Tuesday, November 11, 2025, for further action.
The communique was presented by H.E. Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, who signed off with the party’s slogan, “Power to the People.”
This development comes at a critical juncture for the PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, as it seeks to consolidate its position ahead of future elections. Party insiders suggest the reconciliation efforts could play a pivotal role in ensuring a smooth convention and maintaining momentum against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
