PDP Reaffirms Samuel Anyanwu As National Secretary

    on

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially reaffirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary following a high-level National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday.

Speaking to reporters after the 100th NEC session at the PDP’s national headquarters, Umar Damagum, the party’s acting national chairman, said the meeting was convened specifically to address the party’s communication with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the office of the national secretary.

“We just rose from our 100th NEC meeting. It was a one-agenda meeting to discuss the outcome of our interaction with INEC as regards the national secretary,” Damagum said.

“We all agreed that Senator Anyanwu will continue to act as national secretary.”

The confirmation puts to rest recent internal debates over the leadership of the party’s secretariat, particularly as the PDP prepares for key decisions ahead of its upcoming convention.

Damagum also announced that the next NEC meeting will take place on July 23, during which the party will conclude discussions on the national convention. He noted that both he and Anyanwu would jointly notify INEC of the next meeting in accordance with party protocol.

Reflecting on the outcome of Monday’s session, Damagum took a swipe at those who anticipated conflict, asserting that the party demonstrated unity and resilience.

“The success of today’s meeting has disappointed our detractors who thought it would be rancorous,” he said.

“The beauty of the Peoples Democratic Party is that it is the only party in this country that knows the mechanism to solve its own problem, rancour-free.”

He further highlighted the full attendance of PDP governors and alignment within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), pointing to a united front.

“All our governors attended the meeting. All members of NWC were on the same page,” he said.

“You will not be seeing all these press releases and counter-press releases.”
