The Delta State Police Command says its operatives rescued kidnapped victims and arrested a suspected armed robber in coordinated operations in the state.
Confirming the development through a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the achievements followed “credible intelligence and swift operational response” by officers of the Command.
According to him, the rescue operation stemmed from the reported abduction of a 27-year-old woman in Ibusa community on March 12, 2026.
“Acting on intelligence gathered, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, directed the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad to ensure that the victim was rescued unhurt and that efforts be intensified to arrest the suspects,” Edafe said.
He disclosed that on March 19, operatives trailed the kidnappers to their hideout near Obosi River along the Ibusa/Ogwashiku Road.
“On sighting the operatives, the kidnappers opened fire, but the team responded with superior firepower, forcing the suspects to flee and abandon their captives,” he added.
“The victims were rescued unhurt and taken to the hospital for treatment, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing.”
In a separate operation, the Command also arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a locally fabricated pistol.
Edafe explained that the arrest followed a distress call reporting a robbery at a POS stand along Diffrey Road by Ebu Owa Market.
“At about 7:45 a.m., the suspect, identified as Sunday Blessing and two others now at large, robbed a POS operator of the sum of ₦600,000 at gunpoint.
“Acting swiftly, the DPO Owa-Oyibu Division deployed operatives who trailed and arrested the suspect. A locally made Beretta pistol was recovered from him,” he said.
He noted that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment, Edafe stated that “the Delta State Police Command remains resolute in its fight against crime and will not relent in ensuring that all criminal elements are brought to justice.”
