The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Delta State Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, Tuesday, called on Deltans to rally round the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori administration in its determination to consolidate the tempo of the sustainable socio-economic growth and development of the state.
Sir Ahon made the call while playing host to the Agbarho Urhobo Improvement Union (AUIU), Asaba Branch, who paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Government House, Asaba. They were accompanied by a representative of the Osuivie of Agbarho Kingdom, Chief Ochuko Sakpaide.
He noted that the call had become necessary as it would go a long way in helping to accelerate the all- round development of the state for the overall benefit of Deltans and other residents of the state.
According to him, those in the opposition in the state should stop ‘playing blind politics’, adding that they should appreciate the remarkable achievements of the Oborevwori administration since it came on board less than two years ago.
The CPS, who expressed profound appreciation to members of the Agbarho Urhobo Improvement Union for the courtesy visit, urged them to talk to those in the opposition in the state not to heat up the polity.
He thanked the Urhobo Traditional Rulers’ Council for their support, saying that he would pass the message to the Governor.
Ahon stressed, “I want to appeal to you to reach out to your friends in other kingdoms in the state and preach the gospel of the Oborevwori administration anchored on his MORE Agenda for Deltans and the need for him to be re-elected for a second term in office, come 2027.
“The governor is one of you; he is your son. I want you to continue to support him in driving his MORE Agenda for Deltans.
“As you can see, he has many good plans for Deltans and he is capable and willing to develop the state. You can see projects springing up in Warri and other areas of the state.
“For instance, in Agbarho, we have a number of projects like the Okan/Agbarho Road which has been resurfaced, while the Ughwrughelli Road is at the verge of being awarded to a contractor and others. A good number of primary schools are being renovated.”
He added, “This is your government; the governor is your ambassador and, on a smaller scale, l am also one of your ambassadors representing Agbarho kingdom. We will not fail you; we will not disappoint you.
“We are going to deliver; we are going to make sure that Agbarho gets its fair share in the governance of Delta State.
“I also, thank the Urhobo Traditional Rulers’ Council for the well deserved honour of the governor.
“Please, tell our brothers that are in the opposition that this is the time for governance; when the time for politics comes, we are going to play it together, but for now, they should not heat up the polity. They should appreciate what we are doing,” the CPS added.
While urging them to do their best in marketing the many achievements of the governor, Sir Ahon said Rt. Hon. Oborevwori was liberal- minded in terms of equitable projects delivery, pointing out that he was equitably executing projects in the 25 local government areas of the state.
Earlier, the Osuvie of Agbarho kingdom, HRM Samson Owhe, Ogugu l, who was represented by the Vice- Chairman of the Agbarho Traditional Council of Chiefs, Chief Ochuko Sakpaide, expressed appreciation to the governor for appointing an Agbarho son as his Chief Press Secretary.
The monarch, who described Governor Oborevwori as an excellent Urhobo man, recalled that Urhobo Traditional Rulers honoured the governor as the Omorotomo of Urhoboland at the Urhobo Progress Union, (UPU )Day last year at Uvwiamuge-Agbarho in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in the state.
While saying that the honour was in recognition of the Governor’s performance, he assured the CPS that they were solidly behind the Governor, just as he prayed for God’s protection and greater upliftment in their services to the state.
In his remarks, the President, Agbarho Urhobo lmprovement Union, Asaba Branch, Mr. Pius Iteyere, congratulated the CPS on his well deserved appointment.
“We have taken note of your professional trajectory as a journalist and we are convinced that your capacity and dedication to duty is highly commendable. It shows that you are one CPS who always speaks the mind of your principal.
“We want to say that we are proud of you and we are happy with what you are doing. We are ready to support the Governor in whatever way you want us to support him and the MORE Agenda of the governor,” Iteyere said.
