In a significant development aimed at bolstering bilateral ties, U.S. Representative Riley Moore has hailed the establishment of the U.S.–Nigeria Working Group as a vital initiative to enhance cooperation between the two nations. The group focuses on addressing pressing security issues in Nigeria, upholding shared values like religious freedom, and combating the persecution of Christians by radical Islamic terrorists.

Posting on his verified X handle on Saturday evening (WAT), Rep. Moore emphasized Nigeria’s unique opportunity to deepen its relationship with the United States. He highlighted collaborative efforts to tackle violent terrorism in the northern states and middle belt regions, while also tackling broader economic and security challenges.

According to Moore, this partnership positions Nigeria to emerge as a key stabilizing force in West Africa.
The congressman expressed optimism about Nigeria’s commitment, noting that the agreement demonstrates the Nigerian government’s serious approach and good-faith efforts to improve security conditions.

Both countries have committed to ensuring that all Nigerians can practice their faith freely without fear of persecution or violence. While acknowledging that substantial work remains, Moore pointed to ongoing positive developments and extended gratitude to the Nigerian government for engaging in this collaborative endeavor.

This announcement comes amid heightened international attention on religious and terrorism issues in Nigeria, with the U.S. seeking to support regional stability through targeted diplomatic and security partnerships.

    The full post reads:

Establishing the U.S.–Nigeria Working Group to increase coordination and cooperation between our two counties is an encouraging and necessary step to jointly combatting the security challenges facing Nigeria, promoting our nations’ shared values of religious freedom, and ending the brutal persecution of our brothers and sisters in Christ by radical Islamic terrorists.
Nigeria has a once in a lifetime chance to strengthen its relationship with the US as we work cooperatively to counter violent terrorism throughout the northern states and middle belt, end the persecution of Christians, and address the broader economic and security challenges the nation faces. Nigeria now also has a real opportunity to increase its capacity to be a stabilizing force in the region.
This agreement shows the Nigerians are continuing to take the situation seriously and are working to address the security conditions in good faith. Our nations have pledged to work together to ensure all Nigerians can live and practice their faith without fear of persecution and death. While there is much still to be done, we continue to see positive developments. I’m grateful to the government of Nigeria for coming to the table and partnering with the US to address these challenges.
