    RIVERS: Fubara Signs 2024 N800bn Budget Into Law

    Governor Siminalayi Fubara

    Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N800bn into law.

    Fubara, presented the bill on Wednesday, December 13, to a five-member House of Assembly led by Speaker Edison Ehie.

    He reportedly signed the budget on Thursday at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

    The Wednesday budget presentation took place also at the Government House in Port Harcourt, just a few minutes after the state government’s demolition of the House of Assembly Complex because of structural defects caused by attacks.

    The 27 other members of the House loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were not present at the sitting on Wednesday.

    All the 27 lawmakers recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    Two of them have however reportedly retraced their steps and back into the PDP fold.

    The Speaker of the House, Edison Ehie also declared the seats of the 25 remaining lawmakers vacant on Wednesday.

    Early on Thursday, the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice resigned his position.

    In presenting the budget, Fubara said the N800 billion budget for the 2024 fiscal year was aimed at promoting economic development through inclusive growth and addressing socio-economic inequality in the state.

    The governor said the N800, 392,485,433.01 billion constitutes a Recurrent Expenditure of 361,598,242,570.85 and a Capital Expenditure of 410,266,485,090.64.
