The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo State Chapter, has congratulated the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, following the outstanding performance of Team Edo, which emerged overall champion at the recently concluded 2nd Niger Delta Sports Games held in Benin City.
In a statement issued on Friday and jointly signed by Comrade Kehinde Osagiede, Chairman of SWAN Edo State Chapter, and Comrade Idahosa Moses, Secretary, the association described the victory as a historic milestone for Edo State sports.
According to SWAN, the triumph is particularly remarkable as it comes just 15 months after Hon. Enabulele assumed office, while also bringing an end to a 24-year wait for Edo State to finish top in a major national sporting competition.
The association attributed the success to the purposeful leadership, strategic planning and renewed vision for sports development introduced under Enabulele’s stewardship of the Edo State Sports Commission.
SWAN noted that the achievement reflects the credibility, dedication and sincerity that have defined the current leadership of sports administration in the state.
“Your sterling leadership qualities, commitment, foresight and relentless drive have restored the pride of Edo State as a formidable force in Nigerian sports,” the statement noted.
The association further observed that the Commission’s renewed direction has boosted athletes’ morale, revived confidence within the sporting community and stimulated a vibrant sporting culture across the state.
SWAN Edo also described Enabulele as a “jinx breaker”, noting that the landmark victory not only brings honour and prestige to Edo State, but also signals a new era of sporting excellence.
The sports journalists’ body expressed particular pride in the accomplishment, emphasizing that Enabulele remains a distinguished Patron of the association, whose leadership has strengthened collaboration among sports administrators, athletes and the media.
According to SWAN, the success recorded at the second Niger Delta Sports Games reflects the impact of policies and initiatives designed to nurture sporting talents, encourage grassroots participation and promote competitive excellence.
“As partners in the promotion and development of sports, the Executive and members of SWAN Edo celebrate this historic triumph with you and the entire Team Edo contingent,” the statement added.
SWAN expressed confidence that the victory will serve as a catalyst for even greater achievements, further consolidating Edo State’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading sporting powerhouses.
