    Teachers Role Key To Our Development — Uzodimma

    Governor Hope Uzodimma has congratulated teachers in Imo State in particular, and Nigeria at large, as they mark their Day today globally, acknowledging that the role teachers play in the society is key to our development.

    The United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) had in 1994 proclaimed October 5 every year as Teacher’s Day globally.

    The road to the day was actually paved in 1966 following a meeting between International Labour Organisation (ILO) and UNESCO and the recommendation they made concerning the status of teachers in the area of setting international standards, their rights, responsibilities, and working conditions all over the world.

    The theme of this year’s Teacher Day is: “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession.”

    “I congratulate our teachers as they mark their Day. We are in solidarity with them on a day like this for the priceless role they play in shaping our society,” the Governor said.

    The Governor added that his government will continue to do her best to encourage the teachers put in their best in moulding our children to become responsible members of the society.

    Governor Uzodimma spoke Sunday at the Government House Chapel Owerri where he used the opportunity to immensely thank Imo citizens for turning out in their numbers to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other key leaders in the country who were in the State on September 30, 2025, to commission some legacy projects initiated by his administration.

    The Governor who said the reception accorded the President and his entourage during the visit by Imo citizens was organic, noted that he will “not take everybody’s role for granted.”

    Apart from the President’s visit which he said was hitch free, Governor Uzodimma said it was also a thing of joy that the first batch of the Pilgrims who went to the Holy land had successfully returned home, while the second batch had arrived safely.

    Governor Uzodimma urged the people to remain steadfast in praying for the State, insisting that God has been faithful going by the progress so far recorded.

    He however advised Pilgrims already at the Holy land and the intending ones to think twice about any intention to abscond as things are getting better in Imo State.

    He was full of appreciation to the Chief Celebrant of the Homily, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Ukwuoma, the Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese who was joined by his brother Bishop in charge of the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara, Most Rev. Dr. Simeon Nwobi, and other members of the Clergy.

    In his remarks on behalf of his colleagues, Bishop Ukwuoma thanked Governor Uzodimma for inviting them to be part of the Service.

    He said: “I will continue to urge you to restore hope in Imo State. I challenge you to continue to give hope to Imolites. I have seen the Assumpta Cathedral Flyover. I have seen the Convention Centre. The roads are looking good. I thank you for the other things you are doing, like payment of arrears of pension and gratuity, the new minimum wage for the workers and so on.

    “There will be distractions no doubt, but remain steadfast in praying as you cannot do much without prayers. No matter what you do as politicians, don’t divorce Christian life as the foundation of your being.”

    Earlier, Bishop Nwobi delivered the Homily which centered on the efficacy of the faith of the Christian.

    The Service was attended by the Governor’s wife, Chioma; Deputy Governor of Imo State, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru and her husband, Sir Chukwuma Ekomaru, SAN; Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe; former Governor Ikedi Ohakim and his wife; Secretary to the State Government, Chief Cosmos Iwu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr Nnamdi Anyaehie; members of the Imo State expanded Executive Council and other top government officials – elected and appointed.

    Also present were the Chairman of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers/ Chairman South East Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Eze EC Okeke; Chairman Imo State Elders Council/ Co- Chairman of Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council, HRH, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya and his members; ranking traditional rulers like HRH Eze Oliver Ohanwe, among others.

    Appreciable members of the business community in Imo State were also in attendance. They include but not limited to the Duke of Orlu, Chief Bennett Nwokojiobi and his wife, Chief Tony Chukwu, Chief Marcellinus Nlemigbo ( ex-APC Chairman Imo State), Chief Mike Ikokwu of All Seasons Hotel fame, Chief Charles Ahize, to name but a few.
