The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Ughelli North Local Government Area (LGA) Acting Committee convened a pivotal meeting with ward chairmen to chart the party’s course for the 2027 general elections.
Held at the residence of Comr. Efe Oberiko, the acting secretary of the LGA, the gathering showed the party’s resolve to rebuild and reclaim its mandate following significant political challenges in Delta State.
The meeting, which commenced at 12 noon with opening prayers led by the Acting Vice Chairman Comr. Oghenekaro Umukoro, brought together party executives and ward leaders to strategize on strengthening the PDP’s grassroots structures.
Hon. Daniel Emaye, the Acting Chairman of Ughelli North LGA, praised the attendees for their dedication despite demanding schedules, emphasizing the importance of unity and commitment to the party’s ideals.
Emaye charged ward chairmen with the critical task of revitalizing party structures at the ward and unit levels. He urged them to embark on door-to-door campaigns to mobilize supporters and demonstrate the PDP’s readiness for the 2027 elections.
He further commended their courage and consistency in the face of political pressure and defection storms.
“Our party is not dead, and our structures are not broken beyond repair,” Emaye stated passionately.
“This is the time to show strength, to rebuild our units and our communities. We are going to be doing door-to-door, street-by-street to win back every heart and mind for the PDP.”
The meeting comes at a crucial time for the PDP in Delta State, which has been working to recover from the mass defection of key figures, including the state governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Hon Oke Umurhohwo, a prominent PDP chieftain in Delta State and a key figure in the party’s rebuilding efforts, emphasied the significance of grassroots mobilization. “The strength of the PDP lies in the people,” Umurhohwo said. “Our focus on rebuilding units, ward structures and engaging directly with communities will restore trust and position us for victory in 2027.”
“Our mission now is not about chasing titles or aligning with transient power plays. It’s about restoring trust and building back the party where it matters most; in the homes, markets, villages, and polling units.” he declared
The leadership’s renewed emphasis on grassroots engagement signals a strategic shift toward reconnecting with voters at the local level. The slogan “Power To The People” echoed throughout the meeting, reflecting the party’s commitment to its core values of inclusivity and public service.
As the 2027 elections draw nearer, the PDP in Ughelli North is positioning itself as a formidable force, with a revitalized structure and a united front. The party’s leadership remains optimistic about its prospects, banking on a robust grassroots campaign to regain its footing in Delta State’s political landscape.
