The Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC) in the Warri area of Delta State has commenced operations.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, made this known during a tour of the 125,000 barrels per day refinery on Monday, December 30, 2024.

The latest development comes after the commencement of crude refining by the Port Harcourt refinery in Rivers State.

Addressing the team before the tour of the facility began on Monday, Kyari said: “We are taking you through our plant. This plant is running. Although it is not 100 per cent complete, we are still in the process.

“Many people think these things are not real. They think real things are not possible in this country. We want you to see that this is real.”

Among the tour team was the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.

The Warri refinery produces 13,000 million tons per annum (MTA) of polypropylene and 18,000 MTA of carbon black.

The petrochemical plant commissioned in 1978 and managed by the NNPCL, was built to supply markets in the South and South-West regions of Nigeria.
