Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate or KWAM 1, issued a public apology for an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on August 5, 2025. The altercation involved a confrontation with ValueJet airline staff, where he was accused of breaching aviation protocols by allegedly bringing an alcoholic beverage onto a flight.

In a personally signed statement released on August 8, 2025, K1 expressed regret for the “unfortunate” incident, clarifying that the flask he carried contained water, not alcohol, due to a medical condition requiring constant hydration. He stated the flask was empty during security checks and filled with water in the airport lounge, a claim he said could be verified by CCTV footage.

K1 apologized to the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet, and Nigerians, emphasizing his commitment to Nigeria’s image and denying any intent to disrupt aviation protocols.

The incident had sparked significant public debate, with FAAN and NCAA investigating. The NCAA suspended two ValueJet pilots and recommended K1’s prosecution, while Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo condemned the musician’s actions and suggested a no-fly list placement. Despite an initial denial of misconduct, K1’s apology acknowledged the concerns raised and expressed regret for the disruption.
