Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has urged repentant political youth influencers to shun violence, assuring them of government’s readiness to rehabilitate and reintegrate them into society, Daily Trust reports.
The governor made the pledge at a one-day interface with cluster leaders of the repentant youths under the Safe Corridor Project.
Represented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, the governor said, “There will be no more taking up of arms for thuggery or other antisocial vices. We are going to rehabilitate you and ensure you are placed in safe environments where you can become self-reliant.
“We will take each and every one of you, rehabilitate you, and assign you to where you can best fit in.”
He explained that some of the individuals earlier profiled for the programme had died, and announced that the government would conduct a fresh revalidation exercise to update its records.
He stressed that the initiative is non-political, aimed solely at tackling the menace of thuggery and other antisocial behaviour in the state.
“Many people your age are doing great things. We understand that you have not had the privilege of certain interventions, but we are here now for you,” he added.
Others who drew the attention of the repentant thugs include the Kano Commandant of the National Drugs and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the State Commissioner of Police and other stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse and thuggery in Kano.
