A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Rivers State Governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, Tonye Cole, has criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his relationship with the ruling APC while claiming to be a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Cole called on Wike to do the right thing by joining the APC and stop confusing people about his political loyalty.

“Is he APC or is he PDP? As far as we know today, he is PDP. We cannot continue confusing the electorate in Rivers State and confusing Nigerians because it is dangerous for democracy, that you are in one party, you are controlling another party and we are trying to create a one-party state that is a mixture that nobody is clear about. He should just do the right thing by joining the APC,” he said on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday anchored by Seun Okinbaloye and monitored by our Correspondent in Lagos.

During electioneering for the 2023 presidential election, Wike who fell out with his party the PDP for refusing to zone it’s presidential candidate to the South, campaigned against his party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who hails from the North. He vigorously supported and worked for the then APC candidate, Bola Tinubu.

He was later appointed as a minister of the Federal Capital Territory by President Bola Tinubu.

In the last six months, the former governor of Rivers has in different fora, expressed support for the second-term bid of the President.

In the last Council election conducted on August 30, the APC won 20 out of the 23 councils.

The PDP won in three councils, including Obio/Akpo, where Wike served as the chairman for two terms in 1999 before he rose to become a governor, serving in that position from 2015 to 2023.
