The Ebonyi State Council of Elders has declared total support for the second term ambition of Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru ahead of the 2027 general elections, commending his leadership style and handling of political developments within the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress.

During a press conference on Thursday May 6, 2026, the Council Chairman Ben Okah, and the Secretary, Nduka Ozo, on behalf of the State Elders said they have carefully reviewed recent political activities surrounding the emergence and selection of prospective candidates for the State and National Assembly elections within the APC and expressed satisfaction with the governor’s approach in resolving issues arising from the process.

The elders described Governor Nwifuru as “the Father of Ebonyi State,” noting that the exemplary manner in which he managed and conclusively resolved disagreements further reaffirmed his distinguished leadership qualities.

According to the Council, the governor has demonstrated “depth of understanding, leadership capacity, and unwavering commitment to the peace, unity, and overall wellbeing of the people of Ebonyi State.”

The group further stated that the governor’s actions reflected fairness, inclusiveness, and genuine commitment to promoting the collective interests of all Ebonyians, regardless of political affiliations or interests.

“As critical stakeholders in the State, we wish to express our profound appreciation and pride in his leadership and accomplishments thus far,” the statement read.

The Council therefore unanimously endorsed Governor Nwifuru for a second term in office in 2027, stressing that the “solid and concrete foundation” already laid by his administration provides a credible pathway for continued development and progress in the state.

The elders also appealed to all aspirants who emerged as consensus candidates to immediately begin reconciliation efforts by reaching out to co-aspirants in the interest of unity and party cohesion ahead of future elections.

In addition, the Council cautioned individuals criticising the governor and the Ebonyi State Government to desist from actions capable of causing division, urging all stakeholders to support the administration’s efforts toward peace and development.
