Scores of Labour Party members and Obidient movement in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State have dumped the LP and pledge their allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the September governorship election, Dr Asue Ighodalo.
Numbering over 60, the former LP members in Ward 003, Egor LGA, took the decision on Saturday, representing a significant shift in political alliance and commitment in the area.
Among the defectors are prominent figures within the LP, including leaders, financiers, members of the Obidient Movement, and an entire family of five.
Their decision to switch camp, they said, was motivated by a shared desire to advocate for good governance and to throw their support behind the candidacy of Ighodalo, the PDP flagbearer.
They said that aligning with Dr. Ighodalo and the PDP will ensure the continuation of the positive policies which involve many development initiatives that are designed to advance the interests of the people of Edo State.
Receiving the defectors during public reception on Saturday, the Honourable Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Hon. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-isibor, warmly welcomed them into the PDP fold.
He said the event served as a symbolic gesture of unity and solidarity, as well as a demonstration of confidence in the PDP’s vision and leadership in the state.
