Emefiele: Court Summons Obazee, Okpoziakpo As Prosecution Witnesses In alleged $6.23m Fraud

Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory , FCT, High Court sitting in Abuja has summoned former Executive Officer, Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, FRC, Jim Obazee and a Commissioner of Police, Eloho Okpoziakpo to appear before him on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 as prosecution witnesses in the ongoing trial of a former Governor of Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is prosecuting Emefiele on an amended 20-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office, conspiracy to obtain by false pretence to the tune of $ 6.23million

In a subpoena dated April 27, 2026, Justice Muazu ordered Obazee and Okpoziakpo “ to appear before this Court on the 28th of April, 2026 at the hour of 9 “o” Clock in the forenoon and so soon thereafter from day to day until the above case is tried to tender newspaper publication relating to Naira redesign”

The judge stated that the witnesses investigated Emefiele for the offences for which he is standing trial and should appear before the court to offer explanations on newspaper publication relating to the redesign of the Naira.
