Nigerian born Eberechi Eze was the hero on Sunday after as his 14th minute goal at Anfield was all that Crystal Palace needed to secure an away win thereby putting Liverpool’s title hopes in jeopardy.
Eze converted from Tyrick Mitchell’s cut-back to finish off a flowing Palace move early on and the visitors were deservedly in front at the break.
It was a bad afternoon for Liverpool as it tried all it could to cancel out Palace’s goal but all effort to do so met a brick wall in the first 45 minutes of the encounter.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds ramped up the pressure in the second half but, just as in recent games against Manchester United and Atalanta, their finishing let them down as they fell to their first home league defeat November 2022.
The defeat leaves Liverpool two points behind leaders Manchester City and level on points with Arsenal who, ironically, also lost 0 – 2 to Aston Villa at the Emirate and thus failed to take the chance to go back to the top of the table.
Liverpool will play Everton next weekend at Goodison park.
