The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has called on the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps , Shehu Mohammed, to review the list of candidates recruited under Ebonyi State quota in the ongoing recruitment exercise.
Briefing Journalists in Abakaliki on Friday, Ogah alleged that many of those listed as successful candidates from Ebonyi State were not genuine indigenes of the state, describing the development as a violation of the Federal Character principle and an attempt to shortchange Ebonyi in the allocation of employment opportunities.
The lawmaker, who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, alleged that some of the candidates may have used forged identification certificates to secure employment under Ebonyi State’s recruitment quota.
He urged the FRSC management to immediately investigate the list and ensure that only genuine indigenes of Ebonyi State benefit from positions allocated to the state in the ongoing recruitment exercise.
According to him, the Federal Character principle provides for equitable and genuine representation of all states in recruitment exercises conducted by federal ministries, departments, agencies and parastatals.
“The Corps Marshal of FRSC should review the list for Ebonyi quota in the ongoing recruitment process because the names in the Ebonyi list are not Ebonyi people,” Ogah said.
“If the corps argues this, there should be a physical parade of those candidates they enlisted as Ebonyi people, let us come and show them that those candidates are carrying fake identification certificates.”
Ogah further insisted that Ebonyi State’s recruitment quota should not be allocated to persons who are not genuine indigenes of the state, calling on the FRSC to correct the alleged anomaly without delay.
“The corps should immediately enlist real Ebonyi people into the ongoing recruitment exercise because Ebonyi quota can’t be given to those that are not indigenes of the state.
“They should obey the Federal Character rules which stipulate that every employment must be done equitably and genuinely. They should not tag people they enlisted as Ebonyi people because they are not our people. Over 80 per cent of those people they enlisted for Ebonyi State are not indigenes of the state,” Ogah alleged.
