The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed all Commissioners of Police across the country to immediately commence a comprehensive audit of arms and ammunition within their respective Commands and formations as part of ongoing institutional reforms aimed at strengthening accountability and operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.
The directive was issued during an Emergency Conference with Commissioners of Police and members of the media held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to the Inspector-General, the nationwide audit is designed to reinforce accountability mechanisms, identify operational gaps, prevent misuse of police assets, and improve the overall operational readiness of the Force in addressing contemporary security challenges across the country.
The police chief stressed that the exercise goes beyond routine administrative procedures, describing it as a critical institutional measure aimed at ensuring that all arms and ammunition entrusted to the Force are properly documented, securely managed, and optimally deployed in accordance with established operational standards and national security objectives.
IGP Disu further directed all Commissioners of Police to ensure that the audit process is conducted thoroughly, transparently, and professionally, with detailed reports expected to be submitted to the Force Headquarters within the stipulated timeframe.
The initiative forms part of broader reform measures being implemented under the current leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, with emphasis on professionalism, transparency, accountability, and the strengthening of internal control systems within the institution.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to building a more disciplined, efficient, and accountable policing system capable of effectively responding to evolving security demands and safeguarding public confidence in law enforcement operations nationwide.
The statement was signed by Anthony Okon Placide, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
