The Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Benin Area Office, in collaboration with the World Safety Organization (WSO) Nigeria, has intensified efforts to promote workplace safety and emergency preparedness through a capacity-building programme held as part of the 2026 Safety Week celebration.
The training session, which took place on Thursday, May 21, at the ITF Benin Area Office, formed part of a three-day Safety Week observance organised by the Edo Region of the SafERR Global Ambassadors’ Network (SGAN).
The programme brought together operational staff and members of the ITF Safety Team under the leadership of the Chief Trainer, ITF Benin Area Office, Amb. D. Edun Ogunbor, with participants receiving practical and professional guidance on critical safety procedures and emergency response measures.
The WSO Nigeria delegation was led by the Country Director, Amb. Dr. Soji Olalokun, alongside the Edo State SafERR Network Regional Governor, Amb. Dcn. Theodore Ehiannire; Deputy Regional Governor, Amb. Mrs. Efe-Iyamu Iyabo; Amb. Osazee Okokoni; Amb. Peculiar Olotu; Tr. Charles Imekwumah; and Ms. Ejakpovi Sheila Ogagbe.
During the session, participants were equipped with essential knowledge and hands-on training in areas such as safety awareness, emergency response, workplace first aid, blood pressure checks, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
The initiative underscored the growing importance of proactive safety practices in workplaces and communities, especially in preventing avoidable accidents and improving emergency response capacity.

Speaking during the event, representatives of both organisations stressed the need for continuous safety education and stronger institutional commitment to occupational health and safety standards.
They reaffirmed their shared resolve to advance the global safety advocacy slogan, “Making Safety A Way of Life Worldwide,” while emphasizing that no individual should be left behind in the pursuit of safer workplaces, schools, and communities.
The collaboration between ITF and WSO Nigeria is expected to further strengthen safety consciousness among workers and contribute to building a more responsive and safety-driven work environment in Edo State and beyond.
