…Says Nigerians Should Reject Atiku On Jan 16

The Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC-PCC) has condemned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over alleged failure to pay its workers for more than 12 months, describing the situation as “unconscionable” and urging Nigerians to reject the party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the January 16 elections.
The APC-PCC accused the ADC National Working Committee, led by Senator David Mark as National Chairman and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as Secretary, of neglecting the welfare of party staff despite the party’s promises to Nigerians.
The council’s position was contained in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Dele Alake, who described the alleged non-payment of salaries as wicked and reprehensible.
“It is unconscionable that a political party that has made many grandiose promises to hoodwink Nigerians owes its workers for more than 12 months,” the statement said.
The APC-PCC argued that workers who report for duty daily and depend on their salaries for their basic needs should not be subjected to prolonged hardship by an organisation seeking to govern the country.
According to the council, the alleged development exposed what it described as the emptiness and insincerity of those presenting themselves as new political saviours.
It maintained that ADC leaders and Atiku did not have the country’s best interests at heart, alleging that their quest for power was driven by personal aggrandisement and hostility towards President Bola Tinubu.
“A party that cannot pay its cleaners and workforce cannot be entrusted with our country’s affairs,” the statement added.
The APC-PCC also accused Atiku of having a history of owing his employees, alleging that workers at Gotel Communication and other businesses associated with the former vice president had experienced months of unpaid salaries and staged protests over outstanding wages and other benefits.
It further criticised Aregbesola’s record as governor of Osun State, alleging that his administration struggled to meet its salary obligations during his eight-year tenure.
The council claimed that the former governor’s administration introduced quarter-salary and, at times, half-salary payments to workers, while pensioners were allegedly left without their entitlements for more than four years.
It further alleged that the prolonged hardship experienced by pensioners under the administration contributed to the deaths of some of them.
The APC-PCC said it was therefore not surprised by the alleged inability of the ADC to meet its salary obligations, arguing that the situation raised questions about the party’s capacity to manage the affairs of the country.
“We are sounding a warning to Nigerians and working people now: reject ADC. Reject Atiku Abubakar and reject all ADC candidates in the next general elections,” the statement declared.
The council urged Nigerians to assess political parties not only by their campaign promises but also by how they manage their internal affairs and treat their employees.
It insisted that a party aspiring to govern Nigeria must demonstrate responsibility and accountability in handling the welfare of its workforce.
