Four more commissioners have resigned from the cabinet of Governor Sim Fubara in Rivers State.

They are the Commissioner for Special Duties, Emeka Woke; Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Mrs Inime Chiwenwo Aguma; Commissioner for Works, Dr George-Kally D. Alabo and Commissioner of Finance, Isaacs Kamalu.

They all tendered their resignation letters on Thursday.

The gale of resignation sweeping through the cabinet started with Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN) who resigned from Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s cabinet.

While Aguma cited personal and other pressing commitments as reasons for her decision to resign, Alabo said his decision to resign was based on conscience, personal philosophy, and professional ethics.

Both letters were dated December 14, 2023.

Woke was the Chief of Staff during the administration of the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, the incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Fubara had, on the assumption of office, appointed Woke, an ally of Wike, as the Commissioner for Special Duties.

Woke, however, confirmed his resignation from Fubara’s cabinet on Thursday evening.

“Yes, I have resigned as the Commissioner for Special Duties today,” he said.

When asked if there was any reason for his resignation, Woke said: “When you get the soft copy of my letter of resignation, you will get the reason.”

This development has brought to five the number of commissioners who had so far resigned from Fubara’s cabinet in the last two days with political analysts predicting more resignations before the close of work on Friday.

Rivers State has been in the news following the face-off between Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and the Governor Fubara who is generally regarded as his political godson.
