BENIN CITY — Edo Queens Football Club have been celebrated as champions of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, following a remarkable campaign that saw the team emerge as the best women’s football side in Nigeria.
Chairman of the Edo State Football Association (Edo FA), Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, described the victory as a landmark achievement and a proud moment for Edo State, congratulating the players, technical crew, management, and all stakeholders who contributed to the club’s success.
Edo Queens sealed the coveted title after a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Bayelsa Queens FC in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, a result that confirmed their supremacy in the league and underlined their resilience, discipline, and consistency throughout the season.
Erhunmwunse, in a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the Edo FA Executive Board, management, stakeholders, and the entire football community in the state, said the triumph reflected the team’s determination, fighting spirit, and commitment to excellence.
He noted that the championship was not only a victory for Edo Queens but also a significant achievement for the people of Edo State, whose unwavering support and passion for the team have continued to inspire outstanding performances.
The Edo FA chairman commended the Edo State Government, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, for their commitment to sports development and continued investment in creating an enabling environment for sporting excellence.
He also appreciated members of the State Executive Council for their contributions towards the growth of football and the advancement of Edo’s sporting reputation.

Special recognition was given to the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, alongside members of the Commission’s Executive Board and directors, for their strategic leadership, dedication, and support in sustaining Edo Queens’ remarkable progress.
Erhunmwunse praised Head Coach Moses Aduku, his assistants, the technical crew, medical team, management, and backroom staff for their professionalism, sacrifice, and commitment throughout the season.
He reserved special commendation for the players, describing them as worthy ambassadors of Edo State whose passion, courage, and exceptional performances had once again placed the state at the forefront of Nigerian women’s football.
“As champions, Edo Queens have continued to uphold the rich sporting heritage of Edo State and set a new standard of excellence. This victory will serve as a foundation for greater achievements on the continental and global stages,” he said.
Edo Queens’ latest success further reinforces Edo State’s proud legacy in Nigerian football, with the club now carrying the hopes of fans as they prepare for future challenges beyond the domestic league.
