Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has sacked the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, with immediate effect.
The governor’s directive was contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Abakaliki by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
According to the statement, Governor Nwifuru directed Mbam to “hand over all Government property in his possession including his official vehicle to the Secretary to the State Government.”
The former commissioner was also directed to “transfer responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry” of Works.
The statement, however, did not disclose the reason for the governor’s decision to remove Mbam from office.
The Works Ministry is a key component of the administration’s development agenda, with responsibility for several ongoing road and other infrastructure projects across the state.
Governor Nwifuru, while assuring residents of his administration’s continued commitment to development, said the government remained focused on “delivering effective governance and improving public infrastructure across the state.”
Uzor said the administration would continue to pursue its governance objectives, while ensuring that government ministries and agencies remained focused on their responsibilities.
The governor’s directive takes immediate effect.
