…. Promises Education, TVET Reforms

Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has outlined his vision for a productive and prosperous Nigeria, promising sweeping reforms in education, healthcare and human capital development if elected president in 2027.

In a statement posted on Wednesday on his verified Facebook page to mark the beginning of the month of July, Obi recalled his earlier commitment to reposition the country and said he would, in the coming weeks and months, unveil a comprehensive roadmap aimed at tackling governance failures and improving the quality of life of Nigerians.
“Today, being the 1st of July, 2026, I wish to humbly recall that when I decided to contest for the office of President of Nigeria, I pledged to place Nigeria on the path of unity and national transformation,” he said.

Obi said the proposed roadmap would focus on curbing abuse in government, promoting national unity and delivering sustainable peace, progress and prosperity.
According to him, “This vision is anchored on a commitment to unity, inclusion, social justice, equity, and the freedom of every citizen to pursue lawful dreams.”

Obi identified education and healthcare as the pillars of his development agenda, describing investments in human capital as essential to national growth and economic transformation.
He pledged that his administration would immediately establish a task force to drastically reduce the number of out-of-school children while giving priority to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to drive industrialisation and value addition in agriculture.
He said improved funding and equipment for TVET institutions, backed by partnerships involving government, the private sector and faith-based organisations, would create apprenticeship opportunities similar to the German dual education system.

Obi also expressed concern over the paradox of high unemployment alongside the shortage of skilled labour, which he said has compelled many Nigerian entrepreneurs to establish businesses abroad.
He stressed that addressing the skills gap is critical to transforming Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy into a production-driven one.

The former Anambra State governor further promised to strengthen character and civic education to promote trust, leadership and shared national values, describing them as vital ingredients for enterprise and good governance.
He concluded the statement with his signature message: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
